We always loved beef stroganoff, but the traditional recipe is a bit of an effort and expensive. Found this cheater recipe years ago, and it immediately became a hit with the family. Super easy and delicious! I tweaked the original recipe over the years to make it a bit less "goopy".
6ozcan chopped mushroomsprobably could easily use fresh mushrooms instead
½cupmilk
8 ozcontainer sour cream
1½cancream of mushroom souporiginal recipe called for 2 cans, but I find that's a bit much and I'd rather have the taste of sour cream and cream cheese come through
Instructions
Cook the noodles in a large pot of lightly salted water until al dente (8-10 minutes), drain
Brown the ground beef and drain the fat (feel free to add chopped onions and garlic)
Mix the brown gravy mix, cream cheese, and mushrooms with the hamburger, stirring until the cream cheese melts in
Add milk, sour cream, and mushroom soup. Heat through.
Add to noodles to achieve the desired thickness/sauciness
Notes
You can add a bit of ketchup if desired for some "zing", according to Gillian.
