Grandma Pachis's Koulourakia Cookies

Ingredients
  

  • 1 lb unsalted butter
  • 1 stick reg crisco
  • 3 cups sugar
  • 16 eggs extra large
  • 1 cup fresh orange juice
  • 2 tsp vanilla
  • 7 tsp baking powder
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1 tsp salt
  • Approx. 4 lbs flour (12-13 cups)

Instructions
 

  • Preheat oven to 350°
  • Cream butter and Crisco. Add sugar. Add 12 of the eggs, 2 at a time. Add orange juice. Add vanilla. Mix well.
  • Mix baking soda, baking powder, salt and 1 cup flour, then add the rest of the flour one cup at a time
  • Mix dough until soft
  • Shape cookies into 1 inch twists using about 1 tablespoon of dough. Dough must be very thin!
  • Brush with egg wash (using other 4 eggs)
  • Bake about 20 minutes
